China has unveiled a groundbreaking achievement in the realm of internet technology by introducing the world's fastest network, capable of transmitting data at a remarkable rate of 1.2 terabits per second.

According to a report by the South China Morning Post, this internet speed surpasses most of the existing major internet routes by over tenfold. The collaborative effort behind this milestone involves China's Tsinghua University, China Mobile, Huawei Technologies, and Cernet Corporation.

Spanning a distance of more than 3,000 kilometers, the network establishes connections between cities such as Beijing, Wuhan, and Guangzhou through an extensive optical fiber cabling infrastructure.

The network commenced operations in July and was officially launched on November 13. The report highlights that the network not only excelled in all operational tests, but also consistently demonstrated reliable performance.

In comparison, the majority of the world's Internet backbone networks typically operate at a speed of just 100 gigabits per second. Notably, even the United States, which recently completed the shift to its fifth-generation Internet2, operates at a speed of 400 gigabits per second.

Wu Jianping, the project leader of FITI from the Chinese Academy of Engineering, emphasized that the superfast line is not only a successful operation, but also equips China with advanced technology to construct an even faster internet in the future.
