There has however been a section of critics who have taken offence to the manner in which the film has dealt with the theme of sexual harassment. The critics have accused the film of adopting a patriarchal lens while dealing with the film. “I don't think I am going to watch it but I also just got to know a journalist like Asha Meera got harangued for stating what she felt about the film. I keep hoping for the powerful in Tamil cinema to do better or to do the right thing - only to be disappointed time and again. Quite the sensitivity,” singer Chinmayi Sripada stated on the microblogging site X (formerly known as Twitter).

Singer Chinmayi Sripada has affirmed that she would not be seeing the film. The reason for this is however different from what has been provided by the critics. “I sadly, just got to know Vairamuthu wrote the lyrics in Maharaja - a film that talks about rape and sexual abuse. The Tamil Industry is the ONLY one in the WORLD to actually ban someone from working because I named their favourite molester,” Chinmayi mentioned.
