  • Relocation follows the fatal June 4 stampede at Chinnaswamy Stadium
  • Safety concerns and potential stadium damage drive the decision

The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has decided to shift three one-day matches featuring India A versus South Africa A, initially planned for Bengaluru’s M. Chinnaswamy Stadium from November 13 to 19, 2025, to Rajkot’s Saurashtra Cricket Association Stadium.

This move comes in the wake of a tragic stampede at the stadium on June 4, 2025, during Royal Challengers Bengaluru’s (RCB) IPL victory event, which claimed 11 lives and injured over 50 people. The incident has raised serious doubts about the venue’s suitability for hosting major events.

The BCCI hasn’t provided any explicit reasons for the shift but there are speculations that it might be probably due to the tragic stampede that took place in the stadium on June 4 while RCB’s maiden victory celebrations. The incident has also caused significant damage to the stadium’s infrastructure requiring extensive repairs.
