In a significant development, the Central Administrative Tribunal (CAT) has revoked the suspension order against Additional Commissioner of Police Vikash Kumar Vikash, bringing relief to the officer who was suspended following the stampede incident in Bengaluru’s Chinnaswamy Stadium.

Vikash Kumar had challenged the state government’s suspension order before the CAT, arguing that the action lacked proper basis and procedural fairness. After examining the matter, the Tribunal ruled in his favor, stating that the period of suspension must be treated as active duty. The Tribunal further directed the government to extend all service benefits for the suspension period and to ensure that no officer suffers unfair consequences due to arbitrary suspension.
The CAT’s order also advised the state government to consider offering the same relief to other officers who were suspended under similar circumstances. This decision is seen as a major setback for the state government, which had initiated disciplinary action against several officials after the stampede near the stadium caused chaos and raised questions about law and order management.
With this verdict, Vikash Kumar is now expected to return to duty and resume his responsibilities without any loss of service benefits or seniority. The Tribunal’s intervention reinforces the importance of procedural fairness and administrative accountability when imposing disciplinary actions on officers.
For other suspended officers, this ruling also serves as a precedent to protect their service rights through legal means if they feel wronged.
