In the aftermath of the tragic stampede near Bengaluru's Chinnaswamy Stadium, which claimed 11 innocent lives, the Karnataka government has officially transferred the investigation to the Criminal Investigation Department (CID). This decision follows mounting public outrage, demands for accountability, and the arrest of several key officials connected to the event's organization and crowd management.

The incident, which occurred during a celebratory event for RCB’s IPL journey, turned into a deadly mishap due to alleged negligence in planning, lack of crowd control, and poor security arrangements. Despite prior warnings about overcrowding, thousands of fans were allowed to gather without adequate barricades or emergency exits, leading to a fatal stampede.

Following preliminary investigations, local police arrested KSCA officials, and RCB officials and suspended many top cops for dereliction of duty. However, with growing pressure from the public and political opposition, the state government has deemed it necessary to escalate the probe to the CID for an independent and thorough inquiry.

CID teams are expected to re-examine security footage, event permissions, and communication records between police, and event organizers.

Families of the victims, along with activists and citizens, are hopeful that the CID will bring justice to those responsible for this avoidable tragedy.
