In the wake of the tragic stampede near Chinnaswamy Stadium that claimed 11 lives yesterday, the Karnataka government has taken swift and tough action. At an emergency press conference, Chief Minister Siddaramaiah announced a series of major decisions aimed at addressing the lapse in crowd control and administrative oversight.

A one-man commission has been formed to investigate the incident, headed by retired High Court Justice Michael Cunha. The commission will probe the causes and accountability behind the tragedy.
In a significant move, the government has instructed the arrest of key officials from Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB), event management firm DNA Entertainment Networks, and the Karnataka State Cricket Association (KSCA). FIRs have been registered against the heads of all three organisations.
The government has also cracked down on the police department for alleged negligence. Bengaluru Police Commissioner B. Dayananda, ACP Balakrishna, Additional Police Commissioner Vikas Kumar, Cubbon Park Police Inspector, Central DCP, and the Chinnaswamy Stadium in-charge have all been suspended with immediate effect. The CM also confirmed the suspension of the CPI and Assistant Commissioner of Police, holding the entire police chain of command accountable.
“The CID has been assigned to investigate the stampede case,” Siddaramaiah stated, emphasizing that strict measures will follow based on the inquiry's findings.
The government's decisive action marks a rare instance of simultaneous accountability across private event organisers and senior law enforcement officials. Public outrage has intensified, with many questioning how such a tragedy occurred during a high-profile cricket event. The incident has triggered widespread debates on safety protocols and crowd management at major public venues.
