The Criminal Investigation Department (CID) has intensified its inquiry into the stampede that occurred near Bengaluru’s M. Chinnaswamy Stadium during the Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) victory celebrations, which tragically claimed 11 lives and left several others injured.

Superintendent of Police Shubhanvita is heading the investigation, with Deputy Superintendents of Police Gautam and Purushottam designated as the lead investigators. The case, originally filed at the Cubbon Park Police Station, has now been formally handed over to the CID for a thorough probe.
As part of the investigation, the CID team is set to visit the site of the incident today, specifically inspecting Gates 7, 16, 18, 19, and 21 of the stadium—locations believed to have witnessed the deadly crowd surge. The purpose of this field inspection is to collect essential evidence and reconstruct the chain of events that led to the stampede.
In a significant overnight development, the CID recorded statements from four individuals already in custody. Investigators also examined CCTV footage earlier retrieved by the Cubbon Park Police to gain additional insights. Top CID officials are currently evaluating whether to serve official notices to prominent Karnataka State Cricket Association (KSCA) members, namely President Raghuram Bhat, Secretary Shankar, and Treasurer Jairam.
While the Karnataka High Court has directed that no coercive measures be taken against KSCA office-bearers for the time being, it has also made it clear that their complete cooperation with the investigation is mandatory.
The CID is awaiting further instructions from senior authorities before serving any official summons to KSCA representatives. The ongoing investigation remains centered on uncovering shortcomings in planning and crowd control that may have contributed to the unfortunate incident.
