The Detailed Project Report (DPR) for Bengaluru’s ambitious 288-kilometre Circular Railway project is slated for completion and submission to the Railway Board by August 2025. The initiative, currently under the Bengaluru Division of South Western Railway (SWR), aims to alleviate urban traffic congestion by introducing a seven-leg railway loop encircling the city. The Final Location Survey for the project has already received approval, with DPR work actively underway.

Parallelly, progress continues on the Bengaluru Suburban Rail Project (BSRP), though delays persist. SWR officials noted that land for Corridors 2 and 4 has been fully handed over to K-RIDE, the implementing agency. Land acquisition for Corridor 1 remains ongoing and will be transferred once finalised.

KSR Bengaluru City Railway Station will undergo expansion with the addition of two new platforms, raising the total to 12. This Rs 222-crore project involves partial demolition of the MG Railway Colony and will feature a new, fourth entrance to improve commuter access.

Additionally, the Bengaluru Cantonment Station is being redeveloped at an estimated cost of Rs 484.58 crore. The station upgrade aligns with broader capacity enhancements, including the ongoing quadrupling of the 38-kilometre Bengaluru Cantonment–Whitefield railway section, aimed at easing operational bottlenecks and accommodating rising commuter demand.

These projects reflect a concerted effort to modernise the city’s rail infrastructure and improve urban mobility.
