India has stormed into the final of the 2024 ICC T-20 final after a convincing 68-run victory against England. After having been set a target of 172, England got off to a good start by compiling 26 runs in 3 overs. The move to introduce spinners in the power play however proved to be a masterstroke as England Captain Jos Buttler nicked the very first ball of Axar Patel to wicketkeeper Rishab Pant. 2 other wickets fell in the powerplay.
Axar Patel was then joined by Kuldeep Yadav. The 2 spinners picked 3 wickets each and did not allow the middle order batsmen to settle down. England were reduced to 72 for the loss of 7 wickets in the 13th over. England were unable to recover from this setback and were eventually bowled out for 103 in 16.4 overs. Indian pacer Jasprit Bumrah picked up 2 wickets as well. Axar Patel was adjudged Man of the Match for critical contribution.
Earlier Indian captain Rohit Sharma scored a half century under challenging conditions and was aided by Indian batsman Suryakumar Yadav who scored a 36-ball 47. The two of them put together a 74-run partnership.
