In a press conference held at Vidhana Soudha, Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah announced the launch of a door-to-door caste survey aimed at gathering precise data for internal reservations within Scheduled Castes (SCs). The survey will be conducted from May 5 to May 17 across the state.

Purpose: The survey aims to ensure fair distribution of reservation benefits among various sub-castes within the SC community.
Leadership: A committee has been formed under the leadership of Justice H N Nagamohan Das to oversee the process.
Special Commission: A one-member commission has been created to monitor and guide the survey operations.
Confusion over sub-castes: The government is addressing confusion around multiple sub-castes such as Adi Dravida, Adi Karnataka, and Adi Andhra.
Legal framework: Article 341, Karnataka recognizes 101 castes under the SC category. This includes communities like Korama, Koracha, and Bhovi.
Internal divisions: The Chief Minister acknowledged the presence of left and right divisions among SCs, which has prompted the need for detailed classification.
Siddaramaiah emphasized that this empirical data will form the basis for a more just and inclusive reservation system in the state.
