Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah on Monday made a significant announcement for the welfare of soldiers and their families, declaring that no excise duty will be levied on goods sold at military canteens. He also assured that the state government will take all necessary steps to support retired soldiers.

Speaking at the grand “Jai Hind Sabha” held at the city's Town Hall, the CM paid rich tributes to Indian soldiers, veterans, and the families of martyrs. “Soldiers, farmers, doctors, and teachers are as memorable and vital to the nation as our parents,” he said. He emphasized that safeguarding the country is not just the responsibility of the armed forces but of all 140 crore Indians.
Reiterating India’s unwavering stance on national security, Siddaramaiah said the country has never compromised on moral protection and will never tolerate evil. Referring to the army's swift action following the Pahalgam incident, he said the destruction of terrorist bases showcases India's commitment to protect the righteous and eliminate threats.
The CM also announced plans to establish a Soldiers’ Welfare Board and lauded the role of brave mothers who raise sons to serve the nation. “If you are with the country, we are with you,” he concluded, reinforcing the state's solidarity with the armed forces and their families.
