CM Siddaramaiah writes to PM Modi opposing two-language policy in examinations

Chief Minister Siddaramaiah addressed a gathering at the Kanteerava stadium on the occasion of the 68th Kannada Rajyotsava. During his speech he touched upon many issues that affect Kannadigas. He shared that he has written a letter to Prime Minister Narendra Modi regarding the medium of instruction for examinations. Currently most of the examinations are conducted in English and Kannada. Siddramaiah stated that he is in opposition to this system and that Kannadiga students must be given the provision to attempt the examination in a language they are most comfortable with. 

November 1st 2023 marks the 50th anniversary of the State being renamed as Karnataka. Starting from November 1, 2023 Karnataka Sambhrama will be celebrated for one year in order to create awareness about Kannada among the people. Siddaramaiah stated that he had made a provision for this celebration in the budget that was presented earlier this year. 

A slogan has also been unveiled in this regard. “Hesarayithu Karnataka, Usiragali Kannada” ( The state was named Karnataka, let Kannada be imbibed in our breath) the slogan read. Siddaramaiah also urged the citizens to take a pledge that they would attempt to speak in Kannada to the maximum extent possible. In this regard, he also emphasised on the efforts to inculcate Kannada as an administrative language for official purposes by the State Government.
