Namma Yatri was launched last year
The prices are fixed by the government
It eliminates the very concept of middlemen
Namma Yatri, an app which can be used to hail autos, started last November has helped drivers earn Rs 189 crore.
Backed by the Open Network for Digital Commerce (ONDC), the app was started as a rival to Ola and Uber apps.
Interestingly, the entire earnings of Rs 189 crore has gone to drivers because the app follows a zero-commission policy. In this way, the app has helped drivers save Rs 19 crore in all.
Tina Gurnaney, an ONDC employee, said, “Namma Yatri (enabled by ONDC) drivers in Bengaluru have till date collectively earned 189 Cr. 100% of these earnings go to the drivers through a zero commission model. Even if one were to conservatively assume 10% commissions to big players previously, the drivers have collectively saved about 19 Cr in commissions. The numbers are only going to get bigger and better with scale.”
The app establishes a connection directly with the customers, thus eliminating the middlemen. Also, the app offers affordable fares as they are fixed by the government itself, unlike the other apps.
The app comes as a whiff of fresh air even as other apps charge exorbitant fee from the customers.
