With the commencement of the 42-kilometer-long Purple Line section of the Bengaluru Metro today morning (October 9), elated commuters take to social media platforms such as X (formerly Twitter) to express their contentment regarding the alleviation of traffic congestion in the city and the accessibility of affordable transportation.
This newly operational metro line, linking the East-West corridor within the city, comes at an economical fare of just Rs 57.
“In light of this, the total length of India’s second-largest metro rail network, the preferred eco-friendly, efficient, and cost-effective urban transportation mode, has now expanded to 73.81 kilometers,” the Union Minister Hardeep Singh Puri said in his X post.

Commuters eagerly shared their experiences with the newly inaugurated Purple Line.
One passenger on X compared the Purple Line’s fare with that of Ola cabs and BMTC buses, stating, “Traveling from Challaghatta to Whitefield: Ola Cab – Rs 1,000, Ola Auto – Rs 600, BMTC Bus (Day Pass) – Rs 70, Metro – Rs 60. For a mere Rs 60, residents of Bengaluru can now enjoy a comfortable 42.5-kilometer commute, taking just 60-80 minutes from one end to the other. Pollution is reduced, savings are increased, and peace of mind is further enhanced. The Purple Line currently stands as the longest metro stretch in Bengaluru.”
