A formal complaint has been lodged against Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) star cricketer Virat Kohli in connection with the tragic stampede that occurred outside M. The complaint was filed by social activist H.M. Venkatesh at the Cubbon Park Police Station, calling for accountability from the team’s high-profile players and management. The police have acknowledged receiving the complaint and are reviewing it alongside an earlier FIR registered in the case.
The Karnataka government has taken swift action in the aftermath of the tragedy, suspending Bengaluru Police Commissioner B. Dayananda and arresting four individuals, including RCB’s marketing manager. Mohandas Pai criticized the move as "hasty and counterproductive," warning that the arrests and FIRs appeared premature and risked derailing a thorough and fair investigation.
Pai also questioned the administrative preparedness for such a large public gathering and highlighted what he called “core administrative failures and diversions” that contributed to the chaos.
Authorities continue to investigate the sequence of events that led to the stampede as calls for deeper accountability grow louder.
