In response to the growing crisis, the Health Department has increased the wages of contract doc tors under the National Health Mission (NHM). Health Minister Dinesh Gundu Rao announced that:
- MBBS doctors’ pay has been raised from Rs 45,000 to Rs 75,000.
- Specialist doctors’ salaries have been increased from Rs 1,10,000 to Rs 1,40,000.
- Nurses’ wages have risen from Rs 18,000 to Rs 22,000.
The minister expressed hope that this significant salary hike will help fill many vacant positions in the health sector and attract more medical professionals and specialists to serve in government hospitals.
Despite the Health Department’s proactive efforts, the “China virus” continues to spread its reach, with the growing death toll being a cause for serious concern.
