COVID-19 re-emerges in Karnataka: Active cases surge to 80, Bengaluru reports majority

In a concerning development, Karnataka has witnessed a resurgence of COVID-19 cases, with active infections reported in five districts: Bengaluru Urban, Bengaluru Rural, Mysore, Dakshina Kannada, and Vijayanagar. The latest health bulletin indicates that the state’s total active COVID-19 cases have reached 80, with Bengaluru Urban accounting for a staggering 73 of these cases.

From January 1 to May 26, 2025, Karnataka has reported a cumulative total of 135 COVID-19 cases. Despite a notable increase in cases, the state has maintained a low mortality rate, recording just one death during this period. Encouragingly, no new deaths were reported in the last 24 hours.

In the past day alone, 37 new COVID-19 positive cases were detected in Karnataka, raising concerns about the virus's re-entry into the region. Of the total 80 active cases, 76 patients are recovering in home isolation, while four are receiving medical care, one in a government hospital and three in private facilities.

Testing efforts in the last 24 hours included 191 tests, with 171 RTPCR tests and 20 Rapid Antigen Tests (RAT) conducted. The positivity rate for the period stands at 19.37%, signaling a need for heightened vigilance and public health measures. Despite the surge, four patients have recovered in the past day, contributing to the total of 54 recoveries since the beginning of the year.

District-wise, the case distribution is as follows:

  • Bengaluru Urban: 73 cases
  • Bengaluru Rural: 2 cases
  • Mysuru: 3 cases
  • Dakshina Kannada: 1 case
  • Vijayanagar: 1 case

Health authorities are closely monitoring the situation and urging citizens to adhere to COVID-19 safety protocols.
