Aus beat India, lift Cricket World Cup 2023

Aus chased the target with 42 balls to spare

They lift the cup for the sixth time

Even as millions prayed for an India victory, it was a redux of the result of the 2003 World Cup cricket final as the men in blue went down to the men from down under by six wickets. 

Earlier in the day, asked to bat by Australia, India struggled to reach 240, unable to face an exemplary bowling display and extraordinary fielding exhibited by the Australians! KL Rahul top-scored with a resilient 66.  

Mitchell Starc was the pick of the bowlers with figures of 3/55 in 10 overs. 

Chasing the modest target, Australia started on a high note, but faltered a bit as they lost 3 wickets for just 47 runs on the board in the first ten overs. 

But opener Travis Head played the innings of his life as he amassed a phenomenal hundred to take his team home. And ably assisting him was Labuschagne whose contribution of 58 will go down in the history books as a confident yet sedate score.

India unfortunate 

Right throughout the tournament, India remained invincible. They won 10 out of 10 games in the league stage and beat New Zealand in the semi final. 

But they faltered in the final, surrendering to the Australians.
