The game between India and New Zealand, the table toppers of the Cricket World Cup 2023, was one of the most engaging games of the tournaments so far. The picturesque setting of the Dharamshala stadium added to a great viewing experience on screen. The game has now broken viewership records for any cricketing game on Disney Hotstar.
Towards the end of the game when Indian batsman Kohli was nearing his prospective 49th One Day International (ODI) century to equal Sachin’s record, the viewership had touched 4.3 crore. Unfortunately, Kohli was deemed out while attempting a six off New Zealand’s bowler Matt Henry which was held on by New Zealand’s all rounder Glenn Phillips near the boundary.
The fireworks after India’s win to a scenic background of the hills of Himachal Pradesh was an engrossing view. Board of Control for Cricket in India Secretary, Jay Shah shared the update on X (formerly known as Twitter) “History made! IND v NZ match smashed all records with an incredible 4.3 Crore concurrent users on DisneyPlusHS, the most for any cricket match, eclipsing the previous record set during IND v PAK. The nation is right behind Team India as it continues its impressive run in the World Cup(sic),” he posted.
