The Bengaluru crowd were witness to another calm, well composed innings by Indian batsman Virat Kohli as he got to another half century. This also ensured that he edged past South African wicketkeeper Quinton De Kock who had amassed 591 runs in the tournament by a narrow margin of 3 runs before being bowled out by Netherlands spinner Van Der Merwe. It must be noted that the strike rate of Quinton De Kock is 109.24 in comparison to Kohli whose strike rate is 88.52. However, Kohli's average of 99.00 is unmatched in the tournament. New Zealand captain Kane Williamson comes second in this regard with an average of 93.50. He has played only 3 games in this tournament.
Kohli finished as the leading run scorer in the 2014 T20 World Cup. He had also emerged as the leading run scorer in Asia Cup 2012. He had however yet so far been unable to achieve this record in the context of ICC Cricket World Cups and ICC Champions Trophies. Provided that he is able to maintain his lead over the course of the semi finals and the final, this would be another feather in his cap.
