Pakistan wicketkeeper Muhammad Rizwan was in the epicentre of a controversy after his post dedicating his match winning century as a token of solidarity to the Palestinian cause. “This was for our brothers and sisters in Gaza. Happy to contribute to the win. Credits to the whole team and especially Abdullah Shafique and Hassan Ali for making it easier. Extremely grateful to the people of Hyderabad for the amazing hospitality and support throughout,” Rizwan posted on X (formerly known as Twitter).

"ICC prohibits cricketers from making political statements during such events. MS Dhoni was asked to remove the insignia from his w/k gloves in the 2019 World Cup. Even in 2014 during a Test against India, ICC had banned Moeen Ali from wearing “Save Gaza” and “Free Palestine” wristbands," Editor of the sports division for India Today, Rahul Rawat stated in reply to the post.
Earlier, Rizwan’s heroic efforts saved Pakistan from a prospective defeat against Sri Lanka in their world cup encounter against Sri Lanka. Rizwan suffered from severe cramps owing to the weather condition and exhaustion when he was in his 80s. But he persisted with his pain and ensured that Pakistan get past the finishing line in what would be a world cup record in terms of the highest target chased.
