Crowd shouted slogans of "Jai Shree Ram' at Rizwan
Using sports as a tool to spread hatred is condemnable: Udayanidhi
If sports has to be seen as sports, religion has to be seen as religion: Annamalai
Visuals of Pakistani batsman Mohammad Rizwan being a recipient of the crowd shouting slogans of “Jai Shree Ram” as he made his way back to the pavilion after having been bowled out by Jasprit Bumrah became viral on the internet.
Minister for Youth Welfare and Sports Development of Tamil Nadu, Udayanidhi Stalin expressed disappointment at the actions of the crowd. “India is renowned for its sportsmanship and hospitality. However, the treatment meted out to Pakistan players at Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad is unacceptable and a new low. Sports should be a unifying force between countries, fostering true brotherhood. Using it as a tool to spread hatred is condemnable,” he posted on X (formerly known as Twitter).

State President of Tamil Nadu, BJP, K. Annamalai has responded to this statement issued by Udayanidhi Stalin. “If sports has to be seen as sports, religion has to be seen as religion, he expressed his intent to eradicate the Sanatana Dharma. He does not have the eligibility to make this statement. India has given tremendous respect for players from Pakistan. In 1999 when Pakistan defeated India by 13 runs in a test match in Chennai, they received a standing ovation. In the 2 matches they played in Hyderabad, they received great support. I don’t see the “Jai Shree Ram” slogan as intended to hurt Rizwan. Sometimes emotions flare up,” Annamalai said in an interaction with the press.
