M A Saleem, Director General of Police, Economic Offences and Special units, Karnataka state addressed a gathering at the Inaugurating seminar on Cybersecurity- Potential of Artificial Intelligence organised by the Federation of Karnataka Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FKCCI). He stated in his address that districts wherein the educational and economic conditions are precarious are more prone to cyber crime. Fake apps for the Gruha Jyothi and Gruha Lakshmi schemes are being created. He reiterated that they are spreading awareness against such apps.
“Cases are being registered under cyber bullying, trolling, revenge pornography, scheming, fishing and several such offfences categorised into 45 different sections. Unemployed graduates are the leading offenders in this regard, with most cases coming from districts of North Karnataka,” he said.
“Cyber crime does not merely affect the rich. There needs to be more steps taken by the corporates as well to counter this menace. They should not compromise on their data protection. They should prioritise having a sturdy firewall apparatus, “ he added. Around 20% of registered cases are cyber related offences he stated.
FKCCI Chairman BV Gopal also addressed the gathering. "Cyber criminals are using the latest technology to install Ransomware into systems. This necessitates the installation of cyber security measures and services in computers,” he said.
