The fraudulent account, created in Hindi, uses the name and photos of the city’s top cop to send friend requests to unsuspecting users. Authorities suspect that the motive behind this impersonation is to deceive the public and potentially solicit money under false pretenses. The fake profile has already begun circulating widely on social media, drawing attention and concern from citizens.

This incident highlights a disturbing trend where cybercriminals are no longer limiting themselves to ordinary citizens but are now targeting even senior government officials. The impersonation of a high-ranking police officer underlines the urgency for stronger digital verification measures and public awareness.

Police officials have acknowledged the fake account and urged citizens not to respond to friend requests or messages from suspicious profiles, even if they appear to belong to well-known personalities. The Cyber Crime Division is currently investigating the incident and working to trace the origin of the fake account.

This case serves as a reminder for users to remain cautious on social media platforms and to report suspicious activity promptly. Authorities have reiterated that government officials do not reach out to the public for financial help through social media.
