  • Bengaluru sees a significant dip in temperatures due to Cyclone Fengal
  • December is expected to bring more chilly days to the tech hub
  • 16 flights diverted to Bengaluru's KIA from Chennai airport

Bengaluru has seen a significant dip in temperatures following Cyclone Fengal's landfall in Tamil Nadu, with the city bracing for cooler days ahead. Minimum temperatures are expected to hover around 20-21 degrees Celsius, while maximum temperatures are unlikely to exceed 25 degrees Celsius over the next two days, according to the India Meteorological Department (IMD).

Dr. N. Puviarasan, head of IMD Bengaluru, reportedly explained that the cyclone-induced cloud cover is the primary factor for the city's cooler weather. “Complete cloud cover will keep maximum temperatures between 24 and 25 degrees Celsius,” he noted, adding that December is expected to bring more chilly days to the tech hub. Light to moderate rainfall is also forecast for parts of Bengaluru until December 5.

The effects of Cyclone Fengal extended to Chennai, where heavy rain and strong winds disrupted flight and train operations. Chennai Airport suspended services for 16 hours, prompting the diversion of 16 flights, including five international ones, to Bengaluru's Kempegowda International Airport (KIA).

Among the domestic flights rerouted to Bengaluru were those operated by IndiGo, Air India, Akasa Air, SpiceJet, and Star Air. Train services in the affected region faced delays and cancellations.

The cyclone's aftermath underscores its far-reaching impact on weather patterns and transportation across southern India.
