In a bold move, ten senior Dalit faculty members at Bangalore University have collectively raised their voices against alleged discrimination in administrative appointments. These professors, who have long been managing key administrative responsibilities in addition to their academic duties, have accused the university of sidelining Dalit scholars in statutory appointments and denying rightful service benefits.

Despite contributing significantly to the university’s smooth functioning by shouldering extra administrative roles, the faculty claim that their positions are now being treated merely as temporary. They allege that earned leave (EL) benefits, which were previously granted for such responsibilities, are now being unfairly withheld. Repeated representations to the administration have gone unanswered, prompting the group to consider themselves relieved from their additional posts.
The professors who have signed and submitted their collective objection include:
- Prof. Somasekhar C – Director, Ambedkar Research Centre
- Prof. Vijayakumar H Doddamani – Babu Jagjivan Ram Research Centre
- Prof. Nagesh P C – Director, Student Welfare
- Prof. Krishnamurthy G – Special Officer, SC/ST Cell
- Prof. Sudesh V – Coordinator, PM-USHA
- Prof. Muralidhar B L – Director, Distance and Online Education Centre
- Prof. Shashidhar M – Director, Malaviya Teachers’ Training Institute
- Prof. Ramesh – Director, Prasaranga
- Dr. Suresh R – Director, Equal Opportunity Cell
- Dr. Kumbinarasayya S – Director, BAILE Centre
The collective action underscores a growing demand for equity, recognition, and institutional accountability within higher education.
