Bengaluru has recorded a significant reduction in dengue cases this year, thanks to proactive measures taken by the Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP). According to official data, the city saw only 1,676 dengue cases from January 1 to July 23, 2025, a sharp 75% drop compared to 7,280 cases during the same period in 2024. Importantly, no deaths have been reported this year.

In recent years, dengue cases in Bengaluru surged alarmingly, from 2,313 cases in 2022 to 8,609 cases and four deaths in 2023. The trend worsened in 2024 with 14,950 cases and three fatalities by early December. In contrast, the sharp decline this year reflects the success of early intervention.
The BBMP has attributed the success to a combination of aggressive source reduction, mosquito control operations, and public education. Focused efforts were made in water-logged and low-lying areas where mosquitoes breed. Spraying operations have been intensified, and awareness drives were held in schools and communities to reduce stagnant water, the primary breeding ground for mosquitoes.
Health teams remain on alert, continuing to monitor risk zones and carry out preventive activities across all wards. The civic body maintains that this momentum will be sustained throughout the monsoon season to prevent any resurgence.
