  • BMRCL has initiated design work for double-decker on metro Phase 3
  • Phase 3 project spans two corridors with elevated routes and stations
  • BMRCL opened tenders in 3 stages for this double-decker infrastructure

The Bangalore Metro Rail Corporation Limited (BMRCL) has initiated design work for the double-decker segment of Bengaluru’s Namma Metro Phase 3, following geotechnical surveys. The ambitious Phase 3 project will span two main corridors, connecting JP Nagar 4th Phase to Kempapura and Hosahalli to Kadabagere, with elevated routes and stations in the planning stages.

BMRCL has opened tenders in three stages for the double-decker infrastructure. The design encompasses elevated sections, roadways, stations, and ramps from Sumanahalli Cross to both Kadabagere and Kempapura, as well as from JP Nagar Station to BDA Complex Nagarbhavi Station. Consultancy reports are also being sought for depot layouts, multi-modal transport facilities, and CIVAC (Centralised Inspection and Verification Automated Centre) near Peenya and Sumanahalli, a BMRCL official reportedly revealed.

Land acquisition for the 44.65-km corridor is already in progress, with 299 properties identified in the initial package along the Outer Ring Road. The Karnataka Industrial Areas Development Board (KIADB) has issued preliminary notifications, and a joint survey is underway for further acquisitions.

Although the project has received significant financial support, delays persist. BMRCL has secured ₹56,218 crore in funding from state and central governments, with project costs now projected to exceed ₹1 lakh crore. The estimated ₹30,000 crore budget for Phase 3 may rise by an additional ₹10,000 crore to incorporate double-decker flyovers.
