DHL expands logistics operations in Bengaluru to strengthen airfreight capacity

DHL Express has expanded its logistics infrastructure at Kempegowda International Airport (BLR), Bengaluru, as part of its strategic growth plan amid rising trade activity in South Asia. The move comes in response to growing regional airfreight demand and aligns with India’s vision to modernise its logistics sector.

On June 27, 2025, the company inaugurated a 17,900-square-foot automated service centre within the AISATS Bengaluru Logistics Park. This addition raises DHL’s total operational area at the airport to over 130,000 square feet. The expansion represents an investment of €3.43 million under DHL’s Strategy 2030 initiative, which aims to enhance efficiency through automation and better cargo handling infrastructure.

India’s ambition to boost annual air cargo volumes beyond 10 million metric tonnes by 2030 has placed pressure on logistics providers to scale up capacity. Bengaluru, already recognised as a major hub for technology and manufacturing exports, plays a pivotal role in this transformation. The city’s Kempegowda Airport registered a 7.3% increase in cargo throughput in FY 2024, reflecting the region’s growing contribution to India’s international trade.

The latest investment underscores DHL’s long-term commitment to India and positions the company to support rising export demands while contributing to national logistics reform efforts. With enhanced automation and space, DHL aims to strengthen its service offerings and maintain a competitive edge in South Asia’s evolving airfreight market.
