The accused, Vinod Yadav, a professional thief, entered the museum by purchasing a ticket on Sunday evening and hid inside until closing time. On Monday, when the museum remained closed, Yadav allegedly broke into two gallery rooms and stole several priceless artifacts, including ancient gold coins from the Gupta period, along with jewelry and utensils from the British and Nawab eras.
However, when the museum reopened on Tuesday morning, staff discovered shattered glass and missing artifacts. During an immediate search of the premises, security personnel found Yadav lying unconscious in a hallway. Beside him was a large bag filled with the stolen items.
Police investigations suggest that Yadav may have fallen from a height of over 23 feet while attempting to escape, injuring his leg in the process. Deputy Commissioner of Police Riyaz Iqbal stated, “The accused seems to have tried to jump over the wall but failed, leading to his injury.”
Yadav’s attempted heist, which mirrored the daring tactics seen in Dhoom 2, ended in failure, leaving both the thief and the stolen treasures in police custody.
