A notable aspect of Royal Challengers Bengaluru’s (RCB) victory against Punjab Super Kings (PBKS) was the final flourish by former Indian wicket keeper Dinesh Karthik that turned the tide in the favour of the home team when things were looking to get out of hand. 38-year-old Dinesh Karthik has already hinted to this season being his last in the Indian Premier League (IPL). 

Interestingly, a few years back, Dinesh had decided that it was time to put curtains on his career. His comeback was however unexpected. This also earned a spot in India’s T20 World Cup squad. 

His performances in the 2023 edition of IPL was below par. This had led to fans questioning his spot. He has however put the doubts to rest with his performance for RCB in the 2 games so far. 

Karthik is now regularly seen in the commentary box when he’s not playing the IPL. His story is an inspiration for youngsters who are immediately dejected by setbacks and lack patience. “DK’s strength is his single minded focus. He achieves his goal at any cost. He is willing to go to any extent for that,” RCB’S fielding coach Manolan Rangaraj said. 

Dinesh Karthik’s father Krishankumar also stated that he doesn’t share his troubles with the family as they might get upset. “Dinesh always thinks about his comeback. He tells me just one thing. Dad, I’ll make a comeback. I know there are several worries in his head. He however does not want me or my wife to worry,” Krishnakumar said.
