Pakistan face prospect of elimination

The clash between India and Pakistan in the International Cricket Council (ICC) tournaments always attracts large viewership. Similar to 2022, in this edition as well, the match went down the wire. India managed to register a 6-run victory despite being Pakistan for the most part of the second innings. 

Pakistan were set a modest target of 120. They were cruising at 80 for the loss of 3 wickets at the end of 14 overs. However, Indian bowler Bumrah managed to get Pakistan opener Mohammad Rizwan out clean bowled shortly after that. He also picked up the wicket of Pakistan all-rounder Iftikhar Ahmed. Apart from Pakistan bowler Naseem Shah, nobody managed to score boundaries in the final phase of the game. A disciplined bowling performance saw India survive some nervous moments to register a win.

Bumrah was declared as the man of the match for his splendid performance of 3 wickets for 14 runs at the end of 4 overs. The result puts Pakistan in a spot of bother. They face the prospect of getting eliminated from the tournament even if they win their remaining games if Ireland loses to the United States of America (USA). India is more comfortably poised. They would however not take the clash against the USA lightly given their performance against Pakistan.
