Diwali is a festival of lights. However, as tragic and ironic it can get, irresponsible bursting of crackers during the festival may lead to permanent darkness of not just those who burst crackers, but also those who curiously look at it.
In Bengaluru alone, several cases of accidents related to cracker bursting were reported.
Dr Shylaja, Ophthalmologist, Narayana Nethralaya, spoke to NewsFirst Prime about such accidents in which kids were involved.
She said, “Out of 16 patients who have come to us for treatment, 7 of them are children. When the crackers blast, it causes thermal injury. The sharp particle can cause penetrating injury. If the piece is big, it results in blunt injury, causing vision problems.”
Doctors have frequently stressed the importance of taking preventive and precautionary measures to thwart any untoward incidents during the festival. But irrespective of the advice given, several people find it a thrilling endeavour to burst crackers in a dangerous manner which not only endangers their lives, but also others.
It is reported that a four-year-old kid has succumbed to cracker-related injuries in Tamil Nadu. It is said that the impact of the blast was so bad that the chest region of the child was ripped apart, leading to its death.
