The 30-Kilometre tunnel road that was envisioned to connect Mysuru Road to Hosur Road passing through Tumakuru Road, Ballarai Road and Old Madras was a part of the poll promise made by the Congress party. The Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) had floated tenders for expression of interest in constructing this project. However it is being reported that only 2 applications have been filed in this regard. This has resulted in an extension of the last date to file the same.
There have also been other constraints which have emerged with the estimated cost of the project being speculated to be Rs 50,000 crore.
"Not all problems can be solved in a day. We are exploring ways to address these challenges. To ease traffic congestion, we have planned tunnel roads but that would cost the government close to Rs 50,000 crore. At present, the government is receiving only Rs 3000 crore as taxes,” Deputy Chief Minister of Karnataka, DK Shivakumar said as quoted by the Deccan Herald.
“There have been requests about the need for better road infrastructure, water supply, basic facilities at BDA layouts, better schools, and bus facilities. I will speak to the officials concerned and see what can be done," he added
