  • Bengaluru's potholed roads are a menace
  • They can hurt your back, really badly!
  • Doctor advises careful driving

As Bengaluru’s roads continue to deteriorate, potholes are becoming a serious health hazard, particularly for two-wheeler riders and daily commuters. Dr Ravi Kumar M, a leading robotic bone surgeon, has issued a stern warning about the severe physical effects caused by riding over pothole-ridden roads.

“Potholes can be devastating,” Dr Ravi said. “They are especially dangerous for the younger generation who ride two-wheelers. A sudden jolt can lead to back injuries, spinal compression, and in some cases, even fractures or permanent disability.” He emphasized that shock absorption systems in vehicles are vital, but equally important is the need for riders to be cautious and slow down when navigating broken roads.

Dr Ravi also highlighted that prolonged exposure to jerks and vibrations from potholes can result in long-term issues like chronic back pain, disc problems, and nerve damage. He urged citizens to prioritize bone health, use proper posture, and wear protective gear while commuting.

Despite repeated promises from the Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) to repair potholes, many roads remain riddled with craters. Incomplete drain works and mid-road construction add to the chaos, increasing travel time and risk.

Dr Ravi’s message is clear: while authorities must act swiftly, citizens must also drive carefully to protect themselves from serious injuries.
