During a press conference in Bengaluru on Monday, External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar emphasized his active involvement in monitoring the establishment of a US consulate in the city. He stated, “Certainly, when I come to Bengaluru, it’s an achievement I should talk about. We are tracking the establishment of US consulate.”
Jaishankar underlined the procedural hurdles faced by the American side in resource allocation and obtaining approval. He affirmed his persistent efforts in reminding US officials about the urgency of completing the consulate. “I think they are moving along that way. I am there to constantly remind them that this consulate should be done quickly,” he reiterated.

Jaishankar also expressed his eagerness to visit the consulate on behalf of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, recalling Modi’s request during his June visit to the US last year.
The initiative to establish new consulates in India and the United States was initially discussed during PM Modi’s meeting with US President Joe Biden in June last year.
The Ministry of External Affairs subsequently announced plans for two new US consulates in Bengaluru and Ahmedabad, reflecting the strengthening bilateral ties.
Both nations reaffirmed their commitment to a robust partnership, emphasizing shared democratic values and a vision for a brighter future.
