Bengaluru’s notorious traffic congestion may finally see relief, thanks to an ambitious initiative launched by EaseMyTrip co-founder Prashant Pitti. Announcing his plan to cut the city’s traffic by 25-30% within a year, Pitti pledged ₹1 crore of his personal funds to drive a coordinated effort among Bengaluru’s top public and private stakeholders.

The initiative was inspired by Pitti’s own ordeal—spending over two hours on an 11km stretch of the Outer Ring Road late at night. Determined to address what he describes as one of the city’s “worst pain points,” Pitti has brought together the Bengaluru Traffic Police (BTP), Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP), City Police, Google, experts from IISc, road engineers, and traffic-tech entrepreneurs. For the first time, these key players are collaborating at the same table to discuss comprehensive solutions.

A cornerstone of the plan is the use of advanced traffic simulators co-developed by BTP and IISc researchers. Capable of generating millions of re-routing scenarios, these models are designed to intelligently predict and prevent gridlocks before they occur. To further improve simulation accuracy, Pitti has initiated discussions with major mobility service providers including Google, Uber, Ola, and Rapido for real-time data sharing.

If successful, this collaborative public-private approach could transform urban mobility in Bengaluru and offer a model for other congested cities nationwide.
