Addressing concerns about reviving a show with a legacy so deeply rooted in the traditional “saas-bahu” format, Kapoor assured that the reboot will bring a fresh, inclusive perspective. Her decision follows critical discussions around the relevance of such narratives in today’s era of diverse, global content. A recent opinion piece questioned whether the revival was necessary, arguing the original glorified the domestication of women.
Kapoor acknowledged these debates, emphasizing that the show’s return isn't just for sentiment but to provoke thought, inspire dialogue, and connect with current generations. She stated the reboot would steer away from outdated tropes and instead focus on storytelling that resonates with today’s viewers, all while avoiding a preachy tone.
The series will see Smriti Irani reprise her iconic role as Tulsi Virani, alongside returning cast members Amar Upadhyay, Apara Mehta, Shakti Anand, and Komolika Guha Thakurta. Kapoor’s promise: a series that respects its roots but evolves with the times, aiming to entertain while encouraging reflection.
