After Glenn Maxwell’s superb hundred kept Australia’s hopes alive in the 5-match T20 series, the teams are set to clash at the Shaheed Veer Narayan Singh stadium at 7 PM on December 1st. There however appears to be concerns with regard to supply of electricity in the stadium. The stadium has an outstanding electricity bill of Rs 3.16 crore which has not been for a time period of 14 years. “We have applied to increase the capacity of the temporary connection of the stadium,” Raipur Rural Circle in-charge Ashok Khandelwal said.
A stopgap arrangement was made for the game which covers the audience lounge. The floodlights would be operated with the use of generators. “We are sceptical about hosting international matches as there will be a problem. For big matches, we use generators as an alternative arrangement. As far as the stadium lights are concerned, I don't know how much of the bill is outstanding but a temporary connection has been taken in the name of the Chhattisgarh State Cricket Sangh (CSCS),” media coordinator of the CSCS Tarunesh Singh Parihar stated.
So far only one international match has been played in the stadium. Although it was a day-night game, it was quickly wrapped up on account of New Zealand being bowled out cheaply within 35 overs. Today however, is a different ball game altogether.
