The foundation of Electronics City was laid in 1978 by Devaraj Urs, a visionary leader who played a pivotal role in its establishment. The project was originally conceived by R.K. Baliga, the first chairman and managing director of Karnataka State Electronics Development Corporation Ltd. (Keonics). Baliga envisioned transforming Bengaluru into the “Silicon Valley of India,” a vision that Urs wholeheartedly supported by appointing Baliga to lead Keonics in 1976.
Situated on Bengaluru–Hosur Road, Electronics City initially covered 332 acres in the villages of Konappana Agrahara and Doddathogur. Today, it spans over 800 acres and serves as a major global outsourcing hub, a transformation accelerated by India’s economic liberalization in the 1990s.
Home to tech giants like Infosys, Wipro, Tech Mahindra, and Tata Consultancy Services, Electronics City has become a cornerstone of India’s IT and electronics sectors, housing a diverse array of companies in IT/ITeS, hardware, design, and manufacturing.
