On July 10, Elon Musk introduced Grok 4 the latest AI model from xAI describing it as “PhD‑level in most cases” and “smarter than almost all graduate students in all disciplines simultaneously.” He also emphasised that this AI can address difficult, real‑world engineering questions where the answers cannot be found anywhere on the Internet or in books.
Grok 4 is built using Reinforcement Learning with Verifiable Rewards (RLVW)a training method that helps the AI learn through trial, feedback, and improvement.Just like a person learns by doing and correcting mistakes.
In tests, Grok 4 scored about 27% on “Humanity’s Last Exam,” doing better than other AI models. When equipped with tools like coding aids and web search, its score jumped to about 41%. The more advanced multi-agent version, Grok 4 Heavy, reached around 50%.
Musk also noted that developers can paste in an entire source-code file and Grok 4 will automatically find and fix errors as well.
However, there have been concerns. Early versions of Grok generated offensive and biased output, leading to stricter controls. Some users now note that Grok 4 seems to echo Musk’s personal views on controversial issues as well.
Despite these concerns, Musk views Grok 4 as more than a chatbot,it is a powerful assistant designed to solve real engineering, coding, and scientific challenges by using clear reasoning that goes beyond what textbooks or Internet searches can offer.
