Tech billionaire Elon Musk has unveiled a new political initiative—the America Party—aimed at disrupting what he calls a broken two-party system in the United States. Once a major supporter of President Donald Trump, Musk has now turned political adversary, particularly after clashing over Trump’s ambitious domestic spending plan, which Musk argues will dangerously inflate the national debt.

Musk, previously tapped to head the now-disbanded Department of Government Efficiency, had advocated for aggressive federal budget cuts and workforce downsizing. However, his break from the Republican establishment came after the passage of a sweeping spending bill, which Musk fiercely opposed, claiming it betrayed promises of fiscal responsibility.
The America Party was officially announced on X, Musk’s social media platform, shortly after he posted a poll asking followers if they wanted independence from what he termed a “uniparty.” The poll drew over 1.2 million responses, with a decisive majority favoring a new political option.
While details of the party's structure remain unclear, Musk indicated plans to concentrate efforts on a handful of vulnerable Senate and House races. Political analysts are watching closely to see whether this third-party bid might splinter the conservative vote, echoing historical precedents like Ross Perot’s 1992 campaign.
The party’s long-term influence remains uncertain, but its emergence adds volatility to the already fractious U.S. political landscape ahead of the 2026 midterm elections.
