Ramya calls Dileep’s acquittal in 2017 assault case disappointing, urges continued fight for justice as CPI(M) plans High Court appeal

The acquittal of Malayalam actor Dileep in the 2017 sexual assault case involving a prominent female actor has sparked strong reactions across the film industry. Among those responding was actor Ramya, who expressed disappointment at the verdict while stressing that the absence of direct evidence often determines the outcome in court.

Ramya observed that although the lower court may have found no conclusive proof against Dileep, many people believe the truth of the matter is widely known. She pointed out that the case is still at the lower court stage and anticipated that the CPI(M) in Kerala would likely appeal to the High Court. According to her, while some individuals have already been convicted, others may escape punishment due to lack of evidence.

She further noted that in higher courts too, evidence plays a decisive role, which is why perpetrators often ensure no trace is left behind. Ramya suggested that systemic loopholes sometimes allow evidence to be suppressed or destroyed, making justice harder to achieve.

Despite her disappointment, Ramya praised the courage of the survivor and the Malayalam film fraternity for standing together in pursuit of justice. She urged them not to lose hope and to continue fighting against injustice, adding that society must remain vigilant to prevent such incidents in the future.

The case dates back to February 2017, when the female actor was abducted and assaulted in a moving car by a gang led by Pulsar Suni. Investigations had alleged that Dileep orchestrated the attack. His acquittal comes just days before the release of his upcoming film Bha Bha Bha, featuring an extended cameo by Mohanlal.
