Movie lovers rejoice! The Karnataka government has officially fixed the maximum ticket price at ₹200 in all theatres and multiplexes, putting an end to skyrocketing prices.
Good news for cinephiles in Karnataka! The state government has officially capped movie ticket prices at ₹200 across all theatres and multiplexes, fulfilling a promise made in this year’s state budget by Chief Minister Siddaramaiah. The move is expected to bring much-needed relief to audiences who often pay exorbitant rates , sometimes as high as ₹500, ₹1,000, or even ₹2,000, during big film releases.

The government issued an official notification confirming the new price cap. The Gazette notification is expected to be published within the next couple of days, after which the rule will take immediate effect across the state.
This decision comes after a draft notification was issued in July, inviting objections and suggestions within a 15-day window. Following due process, the government finalized the cap to prevent arbitrary and inflated pricing that had become common during blockbuster releases.
However, the rule will not apply to multi-screen theatres with 75 seats or fewer, giving small cinema owners flexibility to sustain their business.
While theatre and multiplex owners have yet to receive formal copies of the order, the announcement has already created a buzz among moviegoers, many of whom see this as a step toward making cinema accessible to everyone.
