Across India, shows remain houseful. Fans are lining up for tickets that are nearly impossible to get. Families are watching the film together, with many describing it as “full paisa vasool”, an emotional and cultural celebration that transcends cinema.

Produced by Hombale Films, Kantara-1 is not a sequel but a prequel to the 2022 hit Kantara. Written, directed, and headlined by Rishab Shetty, the film takes audiences centuries back, to around 300 AD, during the Kadamba dynasty. Set against the backdrop of Karnataka’s rich heritage, the story unravels the origins of the Bhoota Kola tradition, a divine ritual that connects humans and spirits in the coastal heartlands of Tulunadu.

The film’s technical brilliance stands out, with Arvind Kashyap’s breathtaking cinematography capturing ancient landscapes and Ajaneesh Loknath’s haunting music deepening the spiritual experience. The cast includes Rukmini Vasanth, Gulshan Devaiah, and Jayaram, each adding depth to the narrative.

Despite its grand scale, Kantara-1 stays rooted in the soil, blending myth, history, and emotion in a way few films have managed. With a budget of ₹125 crore, it’s not just a visual spectacle but also a story of cultural preservation told with devotion and power.
