The much-anticipated Kantara Chapter 1 movie has taken the box office by storm, earning an impressive ₹60 crore in India on its opening day. Released worldwide on Thursday, the film also generated ₹10 crore from international markets, including the United States, United Kingdom, and Canada.

Produced by Vijay Kirangadur’s Hombale Films, the movie had an estimated production budget of ₹125 crore. While the morning shows saw a modest turnout, the afternoon, evening, and night shows experienced massive crowds, driving ticket sales to record levels. BookMyShow reported that 85,000 tickets were being booked per hour, underscoring the film’s immense popularity.
Kantara Chapter 1 is expected to surpass ₹100 crore
According to the tracking website Sacnilk, Kantara Chapter 1 is expected to surpass ₹100 crore in collections by the end of its second day. With positive word-of-mouth spreading rapidly, the movie's ticket demand remains high, especially in Bengaluru, where tickets are already sold out.
The film has also performed well across regional markets, with Hindi territories grossing ₹19-21 crore. The Kannada version alone was 88.13% full in theaters, with Telugu, Hindi, and Tamil dubbed versions showing solid occupancy rates of 75.9%, 29%, and 71%, respectively.
Given the film’s strong opening, Hombale Films is poised to see significant profits, with expectations that Kantara will not only recover its investment but potentially triple its earnings.
