A controversy has erupted over the recently released Kannada film Kothalavadi, with allegations that the producer failed to pay several artists despite their months of work. The film, directed by Sriraj and starring Prithvi Amber, hit theatres on August 1 and is currently streaming on an OTT platform.

The charge was brought forward by theatre artist Mahesh Guru, who acted as a co-star alongside Prithvi Amber. In a video message that has since gone viral, Mahesh alleged that producer Pushpa Arunkumar of PA Productions never cleared payments promised to him and others during the shoot.

“I am a poor theatre artist acting in films and serials. I worked for three months on Kothalavadi. The director spoke directly to us about a package and daily allowance, but no payments were made. Even after shooting, dubbing, and promotions, nothing was settled,” Mahesh said in his statement.

Artists sidelined even during promotions and film’s release

According to him, despite repeated assurances during the film’s schedules, payments were delayed on the pretext of funds not being released. He claimed calls went unanswered once the project neared completion, leaving the artists sidelined even during promotions and the film’s release.

Mahesh expressed hope that his video would reach producer Pushpa Arunkumar and prompt immediate settlement. The allegations have raised questions about transparency and treatment of supporting artists in the Kannada film industry.

Neither the producer nor the director has yet responded publicly to the claims.
