The actor issues a public apology after his imitation of Rishab Shetty’s Daiva performance at IFFI 2025 draws criticism for misrepresenting sacred traditions.
A major controversy has unfolded after Ranveer Singh’s stage act at the closing ceremony of the International Film Festival of India (IFFI) 2025. The actor faced severe criticism for imitating Rishab Shetty’s intense Daiva performance from the Kantara films and wrongly referring to the Daivas, revered forest deities, as “ghosts.”

During the event in Goa, Ranveer recreated a dramatic scene from Kantara Chapter 1 while praising Rishab Shetty’s performance. Though Rishab was seen smiling at first, many viewers online found the imitation disrespectful. A clip from the show also surfaced showing Rishab earlier advising Ranveer not to mimic the act, which further intensified public anger.

Shortly after the videos went viral, several social media users accused the actor of mocking a sacred tradition. A Hindu group later filed a police complaint, alleging that religious sentiments were hurt by the portrayal and the use of the word “ghosts.”
Facing increasing backlash, Ranveer issued an apology on Instagram. In the note, he clarified that the intention was to appreciate Shetty’s powerful acting and not to disrespect any faith or cultural practice. He expressed admiration for the demanding nature of the performance and apologised to anyone who felt offended.
