A spell of rain on Thursday evening brought down temperatures in Bengaluru, offering residents much-needed relief from the summer heat. However, the downpour also turned tragic in parts of the city, highlighting once again the fragile urban infrastructure.

In Katriguppe, a tree collapsed on a parked auto-rickshaw, killing the driver who was reportedly inside the vehicle at the time. Local police rushed to the scene and began clearing operations, while a case has been registered. The identity of the deceased is yet to be released.

Elsewhere, in Koramangala 5th Block, a large tree branch snapped and fell on a car. Fortunately, no injuries were reported from that incident. Rainfall was also reported in Malleshwaram, Yeshwantpur, and other areas, accompanied by strong winds in some localities.

The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecast more rain over the weekend, which could further test the city’s drainage and tree management systems. Bengaluru’s civic woes—waterlogging, uprooted trees, and poor road conditions—have become recurring issues every time the skies open up.

As citizens enjoy the cooler weather, concerns remain about the city’s preparedness for rain-related hazards, especially as the pre-monsoon season intensifies.
