Kulshreshtha, who was a senior program manager at Microsoft Hyderabad, was unexpectedly terminated on August 25, 2005. “No warning, no explanation – just a cheque and shown the door. The mix of emotions I felt: anger, confusion, and that sinking feeling of failure was overwhelming,” he shared.

During this difficult period, Kulshreshtha highlighted the crucial support of his wife. “I called my wife, and she asked me to drive straight home. Instead of lashing out or drowning in self-pity, my wife and I sat down and talked and wrote down our choices,” he said. “Acceptance didn’t come easy, but it was the first step.”
Kulshreshtha then sought advice from his former manager, who encouraged him to pursue roles more aligned with his interests. Following this guidance, he embarked on a relentless job hunt, focusing on networking, updating his resume, and reaching out to old acquaintances.
After three challenging weeks, Kulshreshtha secured a position at Cognizant in Sydney, a role that better suited his career aspirations. Reflecting on his journey, he emphasized how the unexpected setback ultimately led him to a more fulfilling career path.
